Very nice work! I love how the paint flows - watercolor always creates its own unique texture.

It does, doesn't it? I like watercolors especially for this. But it's rather tricky sometimes. Yet still fun. Thank you :)

thank you. what i can rec is use bigger brushes. (kinda as thick as your pinkie finger) this one i did with a small brush (about 3mm in diameter) and therefore made a lot of mistakes.

i paint very much by trusting on big surfaces of shadow and light because i rarely sketch before. which is not really good since mistakes can happen that in watercolour are hard to cover up or fix. in oil or acrylic you can modify almost all the time, make bigger, smaller, move an eye to the left etc. but here, without a preliminary sketch you mess it up. as i did here with the nose and chin especially.

the Die painting i did with a bigger brush and could control the light/shadow ratio better. since the original pic to the toshiya painting didn't have a lot of shadows/depth i had to sorta dabble and with choosing the very fine and small brush i messed up. so... i think it depends on how you work, whether you like watery and splattery sort of painting (like this [link]) or if you like very clean and lavis (flat transparent layers) kind of painting (like this [link]). for the latter you absolutely need to sketch beforehand because you can't control it otherwise. sketch with a think graphite pencil, or with a watercolour pencil but sketch. that's my only advice. and keep the water clean. otherwise it will pollute your painting

good luck and keep painting, you'll only improve and develop your own style and technique that feels right for you :)

thank you very much again for the lovely words :)
